Emil Awad & Octavio Paz

In recognition of his significant contributions to the music of our time, and of the great merit of his arrangements with the late Octavio Paz and his publishers, providing him with exclusive permission to create musical settings of several cycles of Paz’ poems, the Roger Shapiro Fund for New Music is awarding Emil Awad a commission. The commission will support Awad’s musical setting of the second part of the larger work, Piedras Sueltas. The fund will also help facilitate performances of the new work in Mexico, the US, and abroad, in an effort to promote Awad’s work as well as the work of Octavio Paz.
